Ability to set the default line thickness on pens
This is something that is requested in every edition - it was added as a SMART setting for the boards with different pens but the MX series or the 24 version of SMART notebook still does not have any user customizable settings for default pen line width. We still have to click pen, line size dropdown, smallest option, EVERY TIME we change colors. It's infuriating!

Bring back one-dimensional stretching of images
Until the latest update, it was possible to stretch images in SMART Notebook horizontally or vertically only, but this ability disappeared in the new version. I've used horizontal image stretching for years, to illustrate how the unique tissue which lines the urinary bladder distorts without tearing as the bladder distends and empties in my A&P I lectures. I'm sure that one-dimensional stretching has applications for other courses' visual demonstrations too. Any chance that such a one-way-only resizing option can be restored? Losing it kind of spoiled one of my best tricks with my Anatomy I displays.

PLEASE bring option to select pages of a Notebook to export to pdf back!!!!!!
When exporting a Notebook file to PDF in Notebook 23, it only gives option to name the file... no options anymore. PLEASE bring back the intermediate options window which allowed editing which pages to convert, titles, date, page orientation, etc.
79 votesIn Notebook 22 and earlier, the "Export PDF" actually opened a Printer window. Because of that, we moved the print functionality to the Print menu option. Export turned into a pure "turn this file into a PDF" without the ability to target specific pages. We've received a LOT of feedback about losing that feature, but I suspect users don't know that they can still do it under Print. I want to make sure that the functionality under Print meets teachers' needs. Would anyone be willing to try the Print option in Notebook 23 and confirm whether it performs how you want?

Fix the problems
Dear Support Team,
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the latest version of Smart Notebook, which has been causing significant disruptions in my workflow. After using the software for six years, I have never encountered such persistent issues, and I am now reconsidering whether to continue my subscription.
Here is a list of the major problems I’ve encountered:
- The software crashes at least twice per hour, making it highly unreliable.
- It offers to restore lost data after a crash, but this function does not work as promised.
- The handling of tables is terrible, with constant glitches that…

I understand your frustration. If you would be willing to send us some of the .notebook files where you experience these issues, it would help us identify and resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
If so, please reach out to https://www.smarttech.com/connect-with-smart/contact-support to send the files to the Notebook product team.
Thank you.

Hi Lori (and others who want to chime in )
I'm trying to get a better sense of how you're using Transparent Background in the manner you describe here. Is the same thing achievable with the transparent acetate feature in SMART Ink? If you're outside of Notebook and your computer is connected to your panel, touching the pen to the screen should automatically start the acetate process. Can you expand on how you're using it to help us implement a solution that works for you?

BRING BACK MASKING!
Losing the masking capabilities of Smart Notebook was an awful decision! It is one of the few reasons I still use Smart and have not switched over to Google Slides like many of my colleagues have. Luckily I can still run the old version and have that ability, but just might have to consider finally being done with my Smart Notebook.

Font Change
"Please update the way you can change fonts in an entire lesson. Would like a way to automatically change the fonts of an entire slide similar to how it is done in PowerPoint, instead of having to change fonts one by one." Submitted on behalf of a customer, case 00761693

We would like an actual square root symbol with the top line attached. Currently we only have the front "check" part.

Equation Editor
The new equation editor program is terrible! You can't input spaces anymore. The font is weird and makes everything too close and exponents look misplaced. The upper-level operators are missing like limit notation and some integral operators. I can not longer use this program without a better equation editor program as a math teacher. The extend page option needs to come back and the screen capture as well. What a terrible update for educators.

Extend page function misaligns
Please fix the pen alignment problems when extending a page.
Overall, this software is at its most glitchy and buggy that it's ever been.
When trying to complete a handwriting lesson, using a Smart dedicated lined handwriting paper background, when I extend the page, it messes up the alignment of the pen, so what was once written nicely on the line, is now floating in the air!
This is just one of many glitchy problems. Are your software engineers looking at all these bugs?
2 votesThank you for your feedback. And extra thanks for the video! That was incredibly helpful. We will fix this error in SMART Notebook 24.1, currently scheduled to release in December of this year.

Transparent Background Mode - Pedagogical Practices
Please add Transparent Background Mode back into SB24. We have developed our teaching pedagogy and learned to stack windows in a certain order with SMART Notebook software on top to utilize this feature. This feature was helpful and built into our teaching practices.

Press shift to get horizontal/vertical lines
When dragging a line out, please can pressing shift snap the line to be horizontal or vertical. It used to snap to horizontal or vertical when you were close automatically (which was sometimes a pain) but it would be handy to be able to control that like you can in Word for example.

Allow us to determine "page size" in default page preferences.
Allow us to determine "page size" in default page preferences. I prefer 4x3, and find changing each page from its default as a time waste.

Tip: Can Go Back to Notebook 22
Fyi. . . If you, like many, are desperately missing your favorite Notebook features that were for some reason taken away in NB 23, you can go to "View" and then "Open in Notebook 22" and your favorite things that were so useful for lesson planning/creation, teaching, and learning will be there again! Hello screen capture, SMART Recorder, Concept Mapping, and more! Maybe if everyone does this, they'll get the hint : )

Install/update SmartNotebook with Winget package manager
Hello,
I managed to get the application installation working via Microsoft Intune, however I would really appreciate it if you could try to publish the SmartNotebook in Winget package manager https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/package-manager/winget/. It would make my job very easy, as at the moment I have to do the updates on the end stations manually and as the application takes a very long time to install/update, it is not an efficient way.
I manage multiple elementary schools and there are a lot of computers with your application on them.
Thanks in advance for your reply.2 votes -
Zoom Feature on a File Page
The zoom feature in SMART Notebook is currently quite unintuitive and difficult to use in the classroom.
Default Zoom Level: The default zoom setting is at 230%, which is intended to fill a SMART Board screen. However, this level limits the zoom range, as the maximum zoom is only 300%, meaning you can only magnify content an additional 30%. This limited zoom range doesn’t offer the flexibility needed in a classroom setting, where a larger range would be more helpful. For comparison, a useful magnification tool would allow zooming in and out with larger, practical increments—similar to how a microscope…
