Notebook Integration
I'm struggling to understand why Lumio has so many enrichment and interactive activities, yet doesn't have the same basic tools as Notebook. I've spent years creating my slides in Notebook, most with special fonts/ animations/ tools not offered in Lumio.
Why spend time perfecting my lessons in Notebook, only to have to re-edit everything once I upload to Lumio before sharing with students?
Why start fresh in Lumio when I have less than half the options & tools I normally use in my lessons?
Notebook & Lumio might as well be two separate companies because they have basically nothing in common and do not work together.
Thank you for your feedback! We love Notebook too; we've added functionality to it over the last 20 years and there's a lot in there.
We plan on continuing to add support for the best of Notebook features in Lumio and making your Notebook files work better when imported to Lumio. For example, we recently added support for shapes and lines and the MathType equation editor.
We would appreciate your input to help us prioritize the features that are the most important to you. Let us know your favorite specific features by voting on ideas. If you don't see your feature suggested already, create a new idea.
Thank you again, your suggestions will help shape the development of Lumio.

Do we have a timeline on any of this? The original commentor posted this in 2021 and we are still having the same issues in 2024. I don't use Lumio as often as I would like because of this exact issue.

Agreed! Our district is changing our desktops to GoogleOS and SMART Notebook is now not supported. Lumio is a "temporary fix" but does not carry over the dice spinners or the sounds that are essential for student engagement in the elementary and music lessons.
Has any of this been address or are there workarounds yet? Please help!

I agree on the painfully slow progress. lumio is going to lose out to cloud based solutions like figma and canva, which have more useful features like the ability to upload a handwriting fonts, infinite canvas etc.
It seems that Smart supporting Legacy Notebook, will end up way behind the competition. Our school is already looking at these other solutions because of the above. -

Agree 100%! I have also spent years on my Notebook files, and was shocked to find basic functions missing from Lumio (animation, screen/cell shades...). What I don't understand is why two years later this is still an issue.

Yes - TOTALLY agree. Lumio is so limited, it's almost not worth using at all. Many of us have spent countless hours making Notebook files with sound, spinners, dice, etc. and they're useless in Lumio. The Notebook Activity Builder is still so valuable but those activities are now useless for students on their own devices. Not sure why this is so difficult to make work. The Developers at Smart once told me at ISTE that Lumio (then SLS) is essentially Smart Notebook online. It couldn't be further from the truth. Please fix this for us.

Agree! As a music teacher I have to create templates in Notebook and then transfer them to Lumio, but when I need to edit objects created, I need to go back to the original Notebook file.
And why oh why can I not use the sound file that I've attached to my Notebook objects in Lumio. As music teacher this is such a powerful tool! -

I completely agree! There are so many issues when converting a smart notebook file to lumio. I stopped using them because it was so frustrating! I would basically have to reformat every slide!

How does this not have more votes?! As a math teacher of 10 years, I have so many Notebook files that I've created. The new smart boards we've received, with Lumio being touted as the greatest thing ever to go along with them, have been such a struggle this school year. We need those tools!

Yes! Ply! I’ve spent countless hours creating interactive lessons and games that I can’t transfer to Lumio. They don’t link to other slides.

Yes, I was trying to use a compass with my students. No luck in lumio!

I thought the majority of the votes would have to do with notebook integration. It is very disappointing to not have basic functions available. These comments have confirmed my confusion. I spent hours researching. Thank you!

Well said Anne. It makes 0 sense. Not to mention I cant even put my lumio files on a thumbdrive so I will be constantly having to go back and forth between notebook and lumio.
