Thank you for your feedback. We have been considering this issue, and we have a few ideas we're exploring. One is to allow the user to shorten the toolbar to essential buttons only (pen tool, add page, etc.). Another is to allow the toolbar to be collapsed entirely. It would become a button on the side of the screen.
This second option sounds similar to what you're suggesting. It does open the door to other questions, like would you want to use toolbar elements from a collapsed state? Would you want to be able to move the button? And should it be anchored to a side or free-floating?
If you have any additional thoughts you'd like to share, your feedback is appreciated.

It is very frustrating to reopen a Whiteboard file and have it zoom out, but not proportionately, so you can't just zoom back in. You have to reset different parts of the page. I've resorted to Google Slides when moving from board to board because the zooming-out feature is so frustrating.
