Proposed Feature: Enhanced Encryption for GX Plus, MX-V5, and MX Plus Series
Greetings from G7 Group, the distributor of SMART Board® in Türkiye for over 20 years.
We believe it is essential to develop a stronger, game-changing encryption method for the GX Plus Series, the MX-V5, and the MX Plus Series. Current encryption options are inadequate and cumbersome.
School administrators and teachers consistently express the need to prevent students from accessing the SMART Board® during breaks. However, the current system forces teachers to create PINs that are visible to students. Since a fixed PIN cannot be set, a new PIN must be generated each time, resulting in all teachers relying on a single shared PIN. Once students learn it, the protection becomes ineffective almost immediately.
Suggested Solution:
• For the GX Plus: enable the screen to be locked/unlocked using a USB drive or QR code.
• For the MX-V5 and MX Plus: allow locking/unlocking via a USB drive, QR code or an NFC card.
Even a local smart board manufacturer in Türkiye—whose product is less expensive than SMART Board®—already offers a QR code-based encryption system. Many of our customers tell us they cannot understand why SMART Technologies, as a leading global provider, does not yet offer this feature.
We have received, and continue to receive, requests from hundreds of educational institutions for this functionality. Unfortunately, we have also lost numerous projects to competitors for this very reason. Schools view this as a critical need and often resort to purchasing third-party software simply to block student access to the Windows environment.
We are confident that implementing such a feature would deliver near-universal customer satisfaction while significantly boosting sales. We strongly hope and expect this functionality will be added in the near future.
