Allow audio to be heard when screen is frozen or shaded
It is essential that I can play audio while the screen is paused or shaded. This was possible on earlier versions but no longer works on MX (v2). This is a MAJOR FLAW! I used this frequently to do listening activities in Spanish classes which is a big part of the course. I also enjoyed being able to play soft music in the background while students had work time. Please fix this!

Maybe a setting in settings for those who want/dont want it

Our language teachers need to be able to play audio when they pause the screen. They were able to do this when they had ceiling projectors, so it is a step backwards for them. Is there an eta on when this will be resolved?

HiHi, we have also received a request from an international school to enable this feature in MX-V5. They are one of our major education customers in Hong Kong. They strongly request the feature that allows audio to be heard when the screen freezes upon pressing the freeze button on the front panel.

This is a huge flaw and I am hoping that it's corrected soon. It's really hard to be forced to project what's on my screen in order to play music.

Hello, I may have a unique request. My school district recently acquired the SMART Board MX series for our classrooms in order to replace our aging projectors. I frequently use to the pause function to flip through slides on my computer, which is tethered to the board. (It works better for me than using it as an extended display). While paused, the old projector would display a small, unobtrusive "freeze" message in the top right corner. I could flip back and forth subtly, with minimal visual disturbance for my students. On the SMART Board however, it displays a huge pause icon in the middle of the screen which takes a few seconds to disappear. It also does not keep an indication on screen to show me if it is still paused. When un-pausing, the screen also goes black for a split-second before refreshing. These may be small details, but all of this is distracting to the learning experience for my students, many of whom suffer from a lack of attention. (I teach middle school). Ideally, all little distractions like these would be minimized as much as possible. Furthermore, when the screen is paused, sound will no longer continue to play through the projector, which is a huge bummer. It would be nice to be able to have audio pass through while the image is frozen. If there is anyway to make these changes possible in a future update it would make me super happy! Please reduce the pause icon size and move it to the corner, add a constant "pause" indication, allow audio pass through, and stop the full screen refresh when un-pausing. I hope at least some of these changes are possible in a future update!

I absolutely need this option. We just received new boards and a couple weeks ago and hope the update will allow this to happen.

Hi Suzanne, I cannot offer a specific timeline, but I know this is on our roadmap for 2024. Your voices have been heard, and we will deliver.

Is anyone going to address this? Music is an integral part of my teaching and I constantly need to freeze the screen. Even when my smart board is mirroring my chrome book and music is playing on my desktop, it still pauses. It makes the smart board a not so smart board.

Reiterating what Lizzie has stated:
"Has this been addressed?
It is very frustrating not being able to freeze the screen and have music / sound at the same time.
Why does the freeze also mute the sound?" -

Dear SMART Team,
I'm sure there is a lot on you schedule. But correcting the features shouldn't be that much of an issue for you guys. After a whole year this feedback came up I'd welcome a quick response.
You'd finally enable teachers do their work properly. They can do so much while students are listening to listening tasks, but only when the screen is frozen.
Thanks a lot! -

I almost don't want my board in the room anymore. This is such an important feature it is almost a deal breaker.

I've worked in a few schools now which have received the new MX Series boards and this is one of the main issues the teachers have brought up. They would regularly freeze the screen with their projector and have some music playing in the background. This is not currently an option on this model however, something to allow for separate media/audio freezing in a future update would be much appreciated.

Oh my gosh, THIS. My school just bought all new boards for our classrooms and it is absolutely mind boggling that there is no way to freeze the screen only. With audio going on and off while we try to work behind the scenes on our computers, our students are constantly being taken out of the learning environment we purposely set up.

Would like the ability to freeze the screen and unplug the connected computer.
Also, when plugged in, Would also like music/sound to continue playing when screen is frozen

I would like to see the option to continue playing audio when the image is frozen, available on the MX V2 panels
