Yes, the short answer response should allow more than 25 characters. It would also be beneficial to include an extended response option so students can write longer, more detailed answers. Teachers are using the Response feature to ask a variety of question types including multiple choice, true/false, and short responses all within the same Response activity.
Providing students with opportunities to practice both short constructed responses (SCR) and extended constructed responses (ECR) aligns with state testing formats. When students engage in these question types regularly during formative assessments, it strengthens their overall writing skills and ensures they feel prepared for similar tasks on upcoming tests.
